Robert Gray, a prominent and respected citizen of this community, died Oct. 8th at the home of his son-in-law, J. G. Overton, after a short illness, death being the result of old ago. The funeral services will be hold tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the house, conducted by Elder U. C. Brewer, of Danville, this State. Robert Gray was born in Fayette county, Pa., on Feb. 23, 1805, and in 1810 his parents removed to Clark county, this State, where they resided in a fort as a protection against the Indians. In 1836 they removed to Morgan county, and in 1858 to Jasper county, where they lived until coming to this county in 1860. He was married on Fob. 21, 1828, to Miss Mahala Carr, daughter of Col. John Carr, and they had eleven children, three of whom are dead. Those living are Jefferson W. Gray, J. N. Gray, R. S. Gray, Mrs. Indiana Overton, wife of G. Overton Mrs. America Casad, wife of W. S. Cadad, Mrs. Louisiana Noland, wife of William M. Noland, of Jasper county, Mrs. Florida Enoch, wife of Tighlman Enoch, of Toledo, III. and Mrs. Carolina Trout, wife of D. L. Trout. The deceased daughters were Mrs. Alabama Johnson, wife of Thomas Johnson, and Mrs. Virginia Hutton, wife of J. G. Hutton. Mr. Gray hewed a set of logs to build a still-house for Jonathan Jennings, the first Governor of Indiana. - thanks to Kim H

Robert Gray died at the residence of JG Overton at 2 o'clock this morning. He was born in Fayette County, Tenn. Feb 23, 1805. His father moved to Clark County, this state when Robert was five years of age. He spent his youth and manhood in clearing the forests and helping to develop this stae. He was an expert axman and in his early manhood he hewed a set of logs to build a still house for Jonathan Jennings, the first governor of Indiana. He was married to Mahala Carr Feb 21, 1828. To them were born eleven children, four sons and seven daughters. Mrs. JG Overton is the oldest and Mrs. DL Trout the youngest. He moved from Clark County to Morgan in 1836 where he lived for twenty-two years. He moved from there to Jasper County where he lived untilk 1866 when he came to this county where he has made his home ever since. He was a man ripe in years and died loved by his children and friends and respected by all who knew him. Funeral tomorrow at 2:30 at the residence of JG Overton where he has been living for sometime on West Main street. Services conducted by Eld. UC Brewer of Danville, Ind. - kbz
